After the heavy rain last night I expected a damp day - fortunately a sunny occasionally cloudy day accompanied me to Beechworth. I had dinner at the old Hiberian Hotel. From the outside - just an old country pub - but inside, a snapshot in time, adorned with hundreds of photographs of Beechworth from its inception. Beechworth is a walk through history itself - the importance of gold reflected in the gorgeous architecture and pride shown in the achievements of locals both notorious and noted. Burke, of Burke and Will's fame was Police Commissioner here for a time and well known for his eccentric behaviours!
Here the first Victoria Covid rules surfaced. I was asked for proof of vaccination and it was carefully checked. Shortly afterwards a couple arrived with no proof and were politely refused a table as per regulations. They didn't argue just quietly left. Obviously I need to keep the paperwork at the ready!
By the way - food was superb especially the chocolate pudding with chocolate sauce and vanilla icecream.
Need to build up those energy supplies for your upcoming walks Lesley! What better way than with chocolate pud.
ReplyDeleteNeed the energy to combat the rain! It is wet and blowy.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are out and about there. Here at Batemans Bay its been drizzling, quite heavy at times. I had a paddle along Surf beach yesterday, but the weather today is not inducive for that. The tv weather map shows lots and lots of rain heading our way, so our three days here will be a dissapointment. Anyway, it broke the usual routine. One bonus tho, I had a distant glimpse of a seal in the water at Guerilla bay this afternoon during a rain pause.
